The submission of this post is done in the interest of studing and teaching of Ennglish as a second or foreign language.Growing out of the basic concerns of What English & Why English .... it should be How English?
Abstract:-
(I took up this project in partial fulfillment of the requirement for the award of the degree of Master of Arts in English Language Teaching, from Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh, India.)
This project is in the limelight of the Practice Teaching (PT) component aimed at equipping the M.A. (ELT) students or prospective Teacher Trainee to give real exposure to classroom teaching and learning teaching dynamics.
My study on classroom teaching procedures is confined to reading and writing skills. I have chosen to work on reading and writing skills because I felt that ESL learners find it difficult to read a text with fluency and cannot assess their needs for reading a suitable text. Also, they find writing a still more difficult activity as it involves ability to communicate effectively using appropriate text conventions and message making devices. Secondly, I felt that reading and writing is the armour of the intellectuals, to give and exchange ideologies. One can express oneself through writing and can be understood by others only by his/her work being read. In view of the above I felt reading and writing tasks pose a tremendous challenge to ESL learners who want to express, comprehend and transit effectively the meaning potential.
The discussions made are:-
(1) In terms of the perspectives of the classroom, the teacher and the learner. This project work is to initiate thinking on the classroom activities with respect to the methodology in development of teaching routine materials and tasks for use in the classroom. The study of the prepeparations of the lesson plans, materials and procedures for teaching reading and writing skills is also anticipated in the work
(2) Observation tasks of completed lesson is made either by a teacher alone or in collaboration with others involved. It aims to analyze how well the lesson plan has worked out and whether the task and activities have facilitated the students' learning or not. It is to enhance Teacher's profesional growth &development. The classroom observation task includes analysis, discussion & interpretation and experiences aquired and reflection on the whole experince.
